The historic Black Hills provide a spectacular backdrop for South Dakota golf tournaments. The state is uniquely colorful, with its large cross-section of motorcycle enthusiasts. The courses are also unique: large water-bodies and trees are often prominently featured.

Most importantly, South Dakota has many high-caliber courses that are challenging as well as fun to play. Additionally, there are tournaments held year-round for both amateurs and professionals. Here are a few recommended courses to check out in South Dakota:

The Golf Club at Red Rock, located in Rapid City, is a full-blown golfing community. Tastefully-designed homes lie along the sides of the course. The area surrounding the course is wide-open and it features panoramic mountain views. The greens are low-cut and definitely are a challenge at times, but by and large, this is a player-friendly course. It also hosts a number of amateur events throughout the year.

The Prairie Green Golf Club in Sioux Falls is another great course. This one has many difficult holes and is best-suited for advanced golfer, though intermediate golfers who like a challenge may enjoy it also. There are potential water-hazards, in the form of lakes, featured on 14 of the 18 holes. This course has a reputation as one of the best courses in the state and is home to quite a few amateur tournaments.

The Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, located in Yankton, is a great value for the budget-golfer. Additionally, the course is very well-maintained. Itís a bit hilly in spots and there are many trees that act as obstacles, however itís still a fun course to play.

Additionally, a South Dakota Golf Tournament is something worth experiencing. The atmosphere and scenery are unparalleled. So, whether youíre an aspiring amateur, or merely a recreational golfer, South Dakota is a state you should consider visiting on your next golf vacation.
