Nevada is best known for the twinkling lights of Las Vegas and legalized gambling. If you are a golfer, Nevada has a lot more than penny slots and 24 hour blackjack tables to offer you. Some of the best golfing in America can be found during a Nevada golf tournament.

Professional Golfers visit Nevada several times a year to battle it out in the desert. In 2010 Montreux Golf and Country Club hosted the Reno-Tahoe Open, a PGA tour event. The LPGA, PGA and Champions Tour each send a 3 player team to the Wendy's 3 Tour Challenge in Henderson, Nevada every December. This tournament is all about raising money for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Nevada also plays host to several Pro-Am events every year.

The amateur golf circuit is very active in Nevada. The US Junior Amateur Championship, which is open to male golfers under 18, has a qualifier each year in Nevada. Women's Golf has a strong presence in Nevada. Numerous tournaments are hosted and sanctioned by the Nevada State Women's Golf Association. Both the Golf Galaxy Tour and Troon Challenge feature events in Nevada.

Nevada has more than 100 golf courses to play. Many of them are in Las Vegas and the surrounding area. Located in Mesquite, the Palmer at Oasis Golf Club is rated a top 5 resort golf course. Designed by Arnold Palmer, this course has breathtaking features like canyon fairways and desert vistas pulled together with lush, contoured greens.

Las Vegas plays host to the World Series of Golf each summer. This unique event is broadcast on television and features top poker players competing in a golf tournament. Of course being poker players, they can't keep just a scorecard; they have to wager money on each and every hole. For those who haven't made poker or golf their life's work but enjoy both, there are numerous Nevada poker and golf packages which expose you to several of the best courses Nevada has to offer during the day and spend the evenings puttering away on the green felt.
